Growing Supervisor
The Bellingham facility, established in 1901, is the original site of Smith Gardens. The site sits on 40 acres of greenhouse and outside growing area.
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for overseeing the plant maintenance and relocation of crops in order to assure crop quality. Responsible for supervising a team and ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and safely.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Supervise and train staff in standard practices, equipment use, and safety procedures.
- Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide feedback to ensure quality standards are met.
- Ensure adherence to environmental regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices.
- Executes plans for moving plants, ensuring minimal disruption to plant health.
- Communicate progress, address concerns and signs of stress or health issues.
- Evaluate and coordinate greenhouses and field conditions to determine optimal placement for plant health.
- Maintain and manage inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies needed for plant care and moving.
- Ensure all equipment is in proper working condition and promptly address repair needs.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance schedules and relocation activities.
- Organize and clean relocation or moving projects.
- Enforce workplace safety standards during maintenance and relocation activities.
- Approve employee hours and task assignments.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training new employees.
- Utilize horticultural management software to track plant care schedules and moving tasks.
- Assistwith receiving.
- Perform additional tasks or responsibilities directed by management tomeet operational needs.
COMPETENCIES
- Strong understanding of horticultural practices, including plant care.
- Familiarity with equipment and tools used for plant maintenance and relocation.
- Ability to supervise, motivate, and develop a diverse team.
- Proficiency in planning, scheduling, and prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines.
- Willingness to adapt to changing priorities and take on new challenges.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Certification in horticulture or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in horticulture,plant maintenance and leadership.
- Proficient using Microsoft Office suite.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work long hours as needed during busy season, including weekends.
- Work in both an office and greenhouse environment.
- Continuously walk, stand, bend, kneel (and remain working below knee-level) as well as reaching overhead, and from side to side for long periods of time.
- Work indoors and outdoors, in seasonal temperatures and conditions.
- Lift up to 50 pounds in an environment that is often hot.
PAY RANGE
$21- $23 per hour
- $17-$18.50 Per Hour
- $21.00 - $23.00
