Section Grower 2
The Aurora site opened in 1997, and is located just 30 minutes south of Portland, Oregon in the beautiful Willamette Valley. The site has 37 acres of greenhouse and 3 acres of field space. In 2013, we added a 3-acre State-of-the-art glass greenhouse which has allowed the facility to repurpose 40,000 gallons of water every day helping to reduce our carbon footprint.
JOB SUMMARY
The Section Grower 2 is responsible for managing greenhouse crops in up to 10 acres within the greenhouse and/or field space, ensuring optimal growth conditions, maintaining high-quality standards, and supporting the department’s overall objectives. This position involves monitoring plant health, coordinating irrigation and nutrition programs, and leading a small team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Monitor and maintain the health, quality, and growth of plants on assigned section.
- Strong knowledge of PGR’s, specifically regarding, rates, timing, techniques.
- Follow irrigation, fertilization, and pest control schedules as directed by Assistant Head Growers.
- Work closely with IPM to maintain crops free of pest and disease.
- Possess a working knowledge of moisture management.
- Monitoring greenhouse climate to optimize plant growth.
- Support leadership with training, and professional growth of the expanding team.
- Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to safety protocols and procedures.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
COMPETENCIES
- Proficient in adhering to cultural guidelines to produce high quality plants.
- Knowledgeable in pesticide application techniques, equipment, and safety regulations.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities efficiently.
- Excellent communication skills, in person, verbal and written.
- Proficiency in Spanish (verbal & written) preferred.
- Strong computer and Microsoft Office skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in greenhouse or nursery environment, or related field experience.
- Must obtain a pesticide applicator’s license within 60 days.
- Experience in leadership or supervising a team preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Flexibility in working hours, holidays and weekend, as required.
- Work indoors and outdoors, exposure to varying temperatures and humidity levels.
- Ability to push, carry, pull and lift to 50 pounds.
- Continuously walk, stand, bend, kneel, squat, and reach overhead for long periods of time.
PAY RANGE
$22.50 - $25.50 per hour
- $16-$18
- $22.50-$25.50 Per hour
