The Bellingham facility, established in 1901, is the original site of Smith Gardens. The site sits on 40 acres of greenhouse and outside growing area.
JOB SUMMARY
Supervise and motivate staff while promoting a positive and safe work environment. Coordinate with Assistant Head Grower to regularly inspect crops for signs of disease, pest infestation, and overall health. Responsible for daily irrigation and plant maintenance needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Oversee the daily care of crops in the assigned section.Ensuring that plants meet quality standards.
- Follow directions and communicate with Assistant Head Grower regarding crop health, fertilization, growth, greenhouse climate and equipment issues.
- Monitor plant health through pH/EC testing, sample preparation, and weekly scouting for pests and disease.
- Apply pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, or biological controls in accordance with safety regulations and company protocols.
- Responsible for monitoring fertilizer injectors and other greenhouse equipment.
- Ensure efficient and effective operations of the growing team as directed by Assistant Head Grower.
- Supervise and train workers in best practices for plant care, irrigation and IPM.
- Stay up to date with new technologies, growing techniques, and industry trends.
- Conduct yourself with a high level integrity, adhering to Company standards and values.
- Promote a safe work environment, upholding company safety policies and procedures.
- Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Perform administration tasks as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Chemical handlers permit required.
- A valid and current pesticide applicators license preferred.
- Experience with greenhouse automation systems, environmental control technologies, and irrigation systems.
- Growing experience 3-5 years required.
- Leadership experience preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft OfficeSuite.
- Solid understanding of basic mathematical concepts.
- Bilingual preferred(English/Spanish).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work long hours as needed. Including weekends and holidays.
- Continuously walk, stand, squat, kneel (and remain working below knee-level) as well as reaching overhead, and from side to side for long periods of time; including time spent in PPE.
- Work indoors and outdoors, in seasonal temperatures and conditions.
- Lift up to 50 pounds in an environment that is often hot.
PAY RANGE
$22 - $25 per hour
- $16-$18
- $22.50-$25.50 Per hour
