The Bellingham facility, established in 1901, is the original site of Smith Gardens. The site sits on 40 acres of greenhouse and outside growing area.

JOB SUMMARY


Supervise ​and ​coordinate ​all ​selecting ​activities at the ​facility.  Motivate ​staff​ and ​promote ​a ​high-performance ​team​ and ​a ​positive ​work ​environment. ​Ensure customer ​satisfaction through ​quality ​products​ and order ​fulfillment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Select best quality plants according to company specs
  • Anticipate daily selecting needs and plan ahead for future selection.
  • Communicate any plant shortages and overages to Shipping Manager
  • Consolidate crops whenever possible
  • Monitor plant flow from selecting into staging area.
  • Review Selecting plan for proper crew(s) size
  • Track target rates and communicate results to crews and management.
  • Develop and promote efficient methods of product movement and selecting.
  • Determine schedules for Selecting Crew
  • Monitor and coordinate with leads in daily operations to identify and resolve problems areas relating to staffing, schedules, and efficiency
  • Effectively communicate needs and concerns to other department leadership
  • Keep work area clean and organized
  • Operate mobile equipment
  • Conduct yourself with high level integrity, adhering to Company standards and values
  • Develop and train employees, sitting expectations and monitoring performance
  • Promote a safe work environment, upholding company safety policies and procedures
  • Ability to cross train in other areas and serve as backup for other positions
  • Review and approve crew time sheets
  • Attend and participate in meetings and trainings as assigned
  • Perform daily huddles with team

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


  • 1-3 years leadership experience preferred
  • 2 years in industry preferred
  • Must work well in a team environment
  • Wiling to work long days or weeks
  • Comfortable with various technologies and computer software’s.
  • Must be detailed and safety oriented
  • Basic math proficiently
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Basic ability to read and write in English
  • Able to operate mobile equipment
  • Experience in commercial production preferred

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Work long hours as needed. Including weekends and holidays.
  • Continuously walk, stand, squat, kneel (and remain working below knee-level) as well as reaching overhead, and from side to side for long periods of time.
  • Work indoors and outdoors, in seasonal temperatures and conditions
  • Lift up to 25 pounds in an environment that is often hot.

PAY RANGE


$21.5 - $24 per hour

  • $18-$19.5
  • $24 - $26
