The Bellingham facility, established in 1901, is the original site of Smith Gardens. The site sits on 40 acres of greenhouse and outside growing area.

JOB SUMMARY


Manages Bellingham Site’s  Shipping department that includes Selecting , Staging, and Loading operations, schedule, capacity, labor planning and materials management. Utilizes systems with primary goals of reducing costs, improving procedures and finished product,  increasing profit and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction. Inspires and motivates team members to achieve high performance and meet shipping targets.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Collaborate with Inventory department to align shipping schedules with production and sales forecasts.
  • Responsible for operation planning to ensure efficient and timely delivery.
  • Manages the shipping team which includes Selecting, Staging and Loading, including hiring, training, and performance management.
  • Develop and implement staff schedules to meet operational needs.
  • Foster a positive work environment and promote teamwork and continuous improvement.
  • Address and resolve shipping-related issues and complaints from customers promptly.
  • Utilize logistics software to track and manage shipping data.
  • Conduct regular reviews and audits of shipping procedures to identify and address areas for improvement.
  • Ensure that all shipping practices adhere to safety and quality standards.
  • Managing the shipping department's budget and implementing cost-saving measures.
  • Monitor and analyze performance data to ensure goals are met.
  • Provide regular updates and reports on shipping performance and issues to management.
  • Communicate staffing needs and participate in the hiring process.
  • Pursuing personal and professional growth, encouraging learning in others, and adapting to industry changes.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


  • Bachelor’s degree or 3-5 years of experience in preferred fields include Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management preferably in the horticulture or agriculture industry.
  • Proven experience in a supervisory or managerial role, including managing teams and coordinating operations.
  • Proficiency in logistics and shipping software, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Work long hours as needed during busy season, including some weekends
  • Work in both an office and greenhouse environment
  • Lift up to 30 pounds

PAY RANGE


$28 - $34

  • $16-$18
  • $19.5 - $21.5
