Soil Room Technician
The Aurora site opened in 1997, and is located just 30 minutes south of Portland, Oregon in the beautiful Willamette Valley. The site has 37 acres of greenhouse and 3 acres of field space. In 2013, we added a 3-acre State-of-the-art glass greenhouse which has allowed the facility to repurpose 40,000 gallons of water every day helping to reduce our carbon footprint.
JOB SUMMARY
The Soil Room Technician coordinates day to day operations of the soil room to deliver optimal soil quantity and quality product to the transplanting line. Additionally this position works with the Maintenance Manager (Team) to provide daily maintenance checks on JCB Loader and other relevant equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Keep soil component bins stocked so that transplanting line has a continuous supply.
- Work closely with the Transplanting Supervisor to understand daily transplant schedule and soil requirements.
- Responsible for fulfilling lubrication requirements for equipment, as well as general housekeeping duties on the equipment daily. Conduct daily preshift check on the JCB Loader and soil handling equipment.
- Notify Maintenance Department of any equipment repairs required or issues via the completion of Work Request.
- Responsible for the soil component bin, equipment and belts proper functioning throughout the day.
- Assist with counting hardgoods inventory on a daily/weekly basis to update labeling.
- Turn in hard goods report to Receiver and keep hard goods inventory organized and counts correct.
- Assist Head Grower with calibrating rates, programming recipes and tracking pH of soil mixes.
- Work closely with Production Coordinator and Head Grower to order soil components, lime and fertilizer on time.
- Assist with soil component inventory counts.
- Ensure that soil components get delivered in the right area and help unload soil/peat moss trucks.
- Responsible for keeping recycling area organized and clean, including calling recycling truck for pick up.
- Work with Receiver to keep storage areas organized.
- Provide backup for peak season transplanting and forklift operating.
- Train back up soil room operators.
- Keep the soil room, container recycling and hard good storage area clean, organized and secured.
COMPETENCIES
- Able to Read and Write.
- Bi-lingual would be preferred. (Spanish/English)
- Strong organizational skills.
- Good communication skills both written and verbal.
- Basic math and computer skills.
- Qualify to operate forklift, Bobcat, loader.
- Able to work independently.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work long hours as needed during busy season, including weekends.
- Continuously walk, stand, bend, kneel (and remain working below knee-level) as well as reaching overhead, and from side to side for long periods of time.
- Work indoors and outdoors, in seasonal temperatures and conditions.
- Lift up to 50 pounds in an environment that is often hot.
PAY RANGE
$19.75 - $22.25 per hour
- $17-$18.50 Per Hour
- $21.00 - $23.00
