Irrigation Lead

The Aurora site opened in 1997, and is located just 30 minutes south of Portland, Oregon in the beautiful Willamette Valley. The site has 37 acres of greenhouse and 3 acres of field space. In 2013, we added a 3-acre State-of-the-art glass greenhouse which has allowed the facility to repurpose 40,000 gallons of water every day helping to reduce our carbon footprint.

JOB SUMMARY


Responsible for daily irrigation, fertilization and scouting of crops. This role involves coordinating with the Assistant Head Grower to address cultural needs, managing environmental controls, pest management, area sanitation, and crop layout.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Supervise and guide irrigation staff in best practices for watering and equipment operation.
  • Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure irrigation staff members meet performance standards.
  • Communicate detailed instructions for irrigation, fertilization, and crop protection.
  • Implement IPM strategies, including the safe and efficient application of pesticides, fungicides, and growth regulators.
  • Support the Assistant Head Grower in managing environmental controls, utilizing both manual adjustments and automated systems.
  • Systematically scout crops for pests and proactively report findings to the Assistant Head Grower.
  • Measure and record EC, pH, and alkalinity of irrigation water and crop media, sharing results.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


  • Experience in horticulture or greenhouse work is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in irrigation management, preferably within a greenhouse/ nursery setting.
  • Previous Leadership experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with irrigation monitoring tools and software.
  • Comfortable working in environments with potential hazards.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Flexibility to work variable hours, including holidays and weekends, as needed, particularly during peak seasons.
  • Work indoors and outdoors, exposure to varying temperatures and humidity levels.
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds and perform physical labor.
  • Capacity to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods.

PAY RANGE


$17.50 - $19.50 per hour

  • $17-$18.5 Per Hour
  • $21 - $23
